Colourlab Ai unveiled the much-anticipated third-generation Colourlab AI software at a special launch event. The new software revolutionises colour grading for the film and post-production industry with groundbreaking advancements in AI, delivering unprecedented accuracy, speed, and flexibility.

Dado Valentic, CEO and Founder of Colourlab Ai, led the presentation, explaining how Gen 3 marks a complete overhaul from previous versions. “We had to rewrite everything from the ground up. Not a single line of code remains from Gen 2,” Valentic revealed. He also highlighted the major innovations that make Gen 3 unique, including the use of encoder-decoder transformers to handle RGB image data. This approach, Valentic noted, is a first in the industry.

The software now operates on a self-supervised learning model, dramatically increasing precision through the use of a database of 10 million images. “This deep neural network allows us to process millions of images without manual data description, which significantly boosts performance,” Valentic explained.

One of the most exciting features is the introduction of ACES-compatible neural networks, making it the first in the world to offer this capability. The new version is also optimised for big post-production facilities and major clients, offering seamless integration with tools like DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, Nuke, Flame, Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro.

“This is not just an update—it’s a whole new way of thinking about AI in colour grading,” said Valentic, emphasising that the new software is designed for both individual creators and large teams.

Colourlab Gen 3 also introduces a free version aimed at educational institutions and independent creators, allowing them to explore AI-powered colour grading without the need for a license. The paid versions, Creator and Pro, are designed for more extensive use, with the Pro version offering powerful server-side processing that allows teams to access AI-driven colour grading across multiple systems.

The event concluded with a demonstration of Gen 3’s capabilities, including real-time grading for challenging footage, such as helmeted subjects and varying lighting conditions. Valentic showed how the software could automatically balance shots with ease and precision, making the colour grading process smoother than ever.

“We’ve eliminated the tedious, manual work that has traditionally slowed down colourists,” Valentic stated. “Now, professionals can focus on the creative aspects, while the AI takes care of the heavy lifting.”

As the event wrapped up, attendees were left impressed by the software’s power and versatility. Colourlab Ai Gen 3 promises to set a new standard for the industry and is poised to become an indispensable tool for creators and professionals alike.

Here are some reactions from the attendees:

What I’ve seen here is completely on a different level. It’s just such a good move forward. So many times, we had issues in post where we actually had to spend hours and hours fixing things, even not finishing it properly. With this one, it’s just amazingly good.

It’s revolutionary. It’s going to save time in post and eventually also on set. It’s going to give you so much more control over the look of the show. So that is revolutionary. Most impressed by the film emulation. Yes, it’s digital, but it looks just like film. It trumps Dehancer. It looks more like film than some films do.

Max, filmmaker, author and director

I’ve got to say I’m quite impressed with the new features of Gen 3.2. It’s not something we’ve not seen ever before, but we’ve never seen it performed this well, so I’m quite excited for its release, and to try it on my future projects. The matching and the balancing via AI seems like it could save you a lot of time, and I think that’s a feature that everybody’s going to love.

The AI future that was presented today is very powerful because we work quite a lot with moods and emotions. So, being able to transfer a mood from one particular image to the entire workflow immediately and see fast results will have quite a big impact on the industry

I think what most people need to comprehend is that AI is not necessarily taking away jobs; it’s here to help us and just make our jobs a little bit easier and more efficient. For example, just hitting one button to balance everything saves a lot of time – it just makes everything a bit easier.
